CASE STUDY: Complete Wireless Network, Mountain Summer Camp
SUMMARY: A beautiful picturesque view in the Adirondack mountains. For Over 100 years, nestled confortably aside one of the Appalachian mountains most beautiful lakes is 46 acres reserved for an athletics summer camp. With over 30 cabins, offices, maintenance facilities and dining lodges, this paradisiacal summer camp is the last place to find any technology. Which is what makes this task all the more challenging. The camp centers around the main office which is centrally located in the heart of the property and is connected by cable modem. Mobile phones, LTE service are nearly deprived in this area. A few other cabins have direct cable modem connections, but there are no methods to centralize any network infrastructure. The terrain is subject to weather conditions which makes it either nearly impossible or extremely cost prohibitive to run any cable or fiber between the cabins and other structures on the property.
CHALLENGE:
Create a single, unified wireless infrastructure between cabins to provide network connectivity for corporate access, voice, video surveillance and camper Internet access. Given the difficult terrain of the dense forest, steep hills and mountainside as well as the camp being separate by a highway, this design will certainly test the skills and knowledge of all involved.
SOLUTION: The first order of business was to provide centralized control over the network security with a strong firewall solution. Also considering the centralized location of the camp office, designing a reliable wireless network infrastructure that can withstand environmental conditions, perform up to the task in a forest and provide a reliable high-speed network was paramount. Megaphat Networks built a strong wireless infrastructure that was easily scalable, can support, general Internet access, Voice over IP and stream media. Additionally Megaphat Networks ensured that this wireless infrastructure can be extended to operate well over the highway which divides the property and provide stable bandwidth for video surveillance in all areas of the property..
